A visit to the Change Centre: a pre-conference field trip
Canadians are struggling to lead healthy lifestyles, with chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease accounting for 17% of all health care costs in Canada and tragically, 43% of all deaths. In this preconference session, participants will get out of the city and will go on a site tour of the Change Centre, a joint-use community space stewarded by leaders involved in health care, education, and the wider community, that focuses on lifestyle programming.
Located on Treaty Six land overlooking the beautiful Pembina River, the CHANGE Centre is a 130-acre innovation hub focused on a new, integrated model of health and education delivery, training, evaluation, and research. Participants will come for a day to see and experience the innovations at the CHANGE Centre, including learning about metabolic rehab, visiting Gail's Kitchen, participating in Tipi Teachings, rethinking harvest, and enjoying time on the land.
Objectives:
By attending this unique CNS pre-conference “Field Trip”, participants will:
- Get out of the city and see the beautiful Alberta countryside while visiting the Change Centre.
- Experience a taste of metabolic rehab (diet and exercise intervention) on site at the Change Centre.
- Learn about the Indigenous adaptation of the Change Health Community Program through Tipi Teachings and feast.
