Targeted weight loss therapy - Considerations for incretin therapies

This presentation will explore the mode of action of incretins, focusing on their physiological effects, and analyze recent evidence supporting their efficacy in weight loss studies.

Speaker/Chair Bio:

Dr. Jeff Winterstein is an internist with a focus on diabetes and perioperative medicine. He has one of the largest Diabetes practices in Alberta. Over the past 10 years Dr. Winterstein has successfully pioneered telehealth diabetes clinics with several First Nations’ communities in Rural Alberta. He currently conducts diabetes telehealth clinics in 12 First Nation’s sites. The success of these clinics has improved the overall health of the community and is narrowing the diabetes treatment and management gap that exits between rural and urban centers. He and his healthcare team also run one of Canada’s largest in person first nations diabetes clinics which is located on site at Enoch Cree Nation. Dr. Winterstein is very involved in the management and treatment of diabetes. He has numerous publications and is a member of the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine, Canadian Diabetes Association, American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. He is also a principle investigator for multiple international trials. In 2018, he was the recipient of the Diabetes Canada award for “Outstanding Healthcare Professional” for Alberta.
