This presentation will: 1) provide an overview of current dietary assessment tools for nutrients that are important for muscle health, 2) describe the relevance of protein, vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids to muscle health in older adults, 3) explain how a new food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) that assesses dietary protein, vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids was developed, and 4) describe the FFQ validation methods, results and future directions.Janet
Janet Pritchard is an Assistant Professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Science at McMaster University. She is a teaching stream faculty member who teaches undergraduate courses in nutrition, epidemiology and physiology, and has a small research program focused on optimizing nutrition in older adults to preserve musculoskeletal health and prevent sarcopenia and osteoporosis. Dr. Pritchard completed a PhD in Medical Sciences at McMaster University and a post-doctoral fellowship with the Geriatric Education and Research in Aging Sciences (GERAS) Centre (Hamilton Health Sciences).
